James Tarkowski says he is desperate to fulfil a long-standing ambition and grasp the opportunity in front of him as Everton prepare to take on Fulham for a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
The Blues host Marco Silva's side at Goodison Park tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm GMT), after victories over Doncaster Rovers, Aston Villa and Burnley to reach the last eight of the competition.
Tarkowski, who has started every Premier League game since joining the Club from Burnley in the summer of 2022, scored the opener against his former club to set the Toffees on their way to a 3-0 win in round four.
Speaking in a live chat on KICK, the Club's official sleeve and streaming partner, the 31-year-old defender revealed he is now hungry to take one step closer to Wembley this evening.
"The Cup has been great for us," Tarkowski said, live on KICK. "We've had three wins in it, we're in the quarter-finals and it's been a real momentum-builder.
"I've been frustrated for years with cups over the years because it is often overlooked and the Premier League is the real focus, but this year it's been a real focus for us as well as the league and it's really helped us.
"We're really looking forward to the next round because it's a really good chance for us to get to the semi-finals of a cup competition.
"I've always said, especially when I came here, that I always want to get far in a Cup competition - so hopefully this is that opportunity.
"The motivation is there for us. If we win, we're one round away from Wembley, so we'll be ready for it."
Discussing his goal against the Clarets in the previous round, Tarkowski added: "I would have liked to have celebrated it a bit more - I didn't not celebrate because it was Burnley, it just sort of happened and I ended up there with all the lads around me. So I didn't really celebrate but Dwight [McNeil] celebrated for me!"

Everton will look to book their place in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, and they will certainly be the favourites to progress from their quarter-final against Fulham at Goodison Park on Tuesday night. The home team have picked up five wins and a defeat from their last six outings.
On the other hand, Fulham are coming into this game on the back of three defeats from their last six matches across all competitions. The Cottagers suffered a disastrous 3-0 loss to Newcastle United this past weekend, with Raul Jimenez seeing red. Fulham have done quite well against Everton in recent seasons, and the Toffees will have to be careful against the West London club. The Hard Tackle takes a closer look at the encounter ahead of the latest meeting between the two sides.
Key Stats Everton are unbeaten in five of the last six matches across all competitions. Fulham have failed to win three of the last six matches across all competitions. Fulham have won four of the last six matches against Everton. 14 goals have been scored in the last six matches between these two sides.

Think we will lose this. Fans getting cocky, team on run of form and chance of a semi final normally result in a negative result

Sean Dyche wants to build a constant winning mentality at Everton, with Tuesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final providing the Blues with an opportunity to extend their impressive form to five consecutive victories. The Toffees will take on Fulham at Goodison Park (7.45pm GMT kick-off), and Everton will be aiming to reach a League Cup semi-final for the first time since the 2015/16 season. Despite the importance of the occasion, Blues boss Dyche urges his side to maintain the same confident mindset that has helped towards a recent run of wins over Burnley, Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest respectively. Idrissa Gana Gueye and Jarrad Branthwaite are set to be available after missing the weekend’s game through suspension, but, given the injury concerns elsewhere in the squad, Dyche recognises the challenge that awaits against the Cottagers. “We’re patching things together,” he acknowledged, speaking in his pre-match press conference on Saturday evening. “We’ll have a couple back from suspension. Injuries have stretched us, but I’ll certainly be going out with the mentality to win, and putting a team out that I can believe can win. “Of course, it’s a home game, as well. We want Goodison to be rocking and we want to keep the momentum. “People say about all clubs: ‘Oh, why aren’t you trying to win ?’ You don’t try to lose a cup. It’s a strange thing. Trust me, we’re trying to win it. I’ve been trying to win one for years. Everyone is.
“This season, I’ve been trying to change the mentality from last season. And I think it’s right to go into these competitions and say: ‘Right lads, you’re playing.’ None of this, ‘Oh, am I getting rested?’ Not for me, that. I don’t enjoy all that – you’re playing. End of story.
“We’re trying to enhance that mentality. This game might be different because of the injuries, but I’ll wait and see what the news is.”
The aforementioned injuries led to a much-altered Everton starting XI for Saturday’s victory at Turf Moor, with the likes of Mykolenko, Seamus Coleman, and Ashley Young all missing that game, while Abdoulaye Doucoure was substituted at half-time after feeling a tightness in his hamstring.
Despite being forced to make four changes for the weekend’s line-up, the Blues still managed to pick up their fifth Premier League away win this season, and no team has more.
Dyche wants such victories to become a constant - no matter the circumstances - as he explained: “I wasn’t a brilliant player, but I had the mentality that every game was important, so therefore, try to win it.
“That’s the mentality we want to build, and it becomes a constant. Sir Alex Ferguson had it for years at Manchester United. It became a constant. It’s not a big drama over everything, and it was just: ‘This is what we do. We win.’
“Now, we’re nowhere near that, but what I’m suggesting you can do is build a mentality of that. That’s what I’m looking to do. We’ll put a side out and we’ll be pulling in the right direction to win it.”
