Jack Harrison is hungry for more action after a positive start to his Everton career saw him help the Blues pick up a 2-1 away victory over Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
More than 4,000 Evertonians travelled to Birmingham to watch the Toffees, who took the lead in the first half through James Garner's left-footed strike. Dominic Calvert-Lewin doubled the lead five minutes into the second half.
Boubacar Kamara's heavily-deflected effort pulled a goal back for the home side, but Everton, cheered on by a raucous away following, held on for a well-deserved victory.
“It was nice to get back out there,” said Harrison, speaking after the game to evertontv. “I thought the fans were great tonight.
“I was saying last week when I was watching them on TV that they’re so loud, they’re the only people I can hear!
“It was brilliant. Experiencing that on the pitch was really nice, and I had a really nice reception coming off, so I’m grateful for the fans tonight.
“Hopefully I can continue on with this momentum now.”
Harrison started the game and managed 65 minutes on his return to action before being replaced by Dwight McNeil.
The Everton debutant operated on the right side of a front three in a 5-2-3 formation, providing width to one side of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while Arnaut Danjuma offered a threat down the opposite flank.
Explaining the gameplan for the evening’s cup tie, Harrison said: “We put a lot of emphasis on being organised offensively and prevented them from creating many crucial chances, and capitalised on ours as well.
“Going into the second half, we knew they’d have some sort of reaction. We had to be ready for that, and Dom was able to kill that momentum right away with a goal.
“We worked hard defensively to try to stay organised, and I thought we did that really well as a team. To get the result tonight is massive for us.”
Looking forward to future opportunities in an Everton shirt, Harrison added: “I’m excited to have the 60 minutes in the tank, but I’m excited to keep cracking on and get used to the system and the team.
“I created a good chance for Dominic (Calvert-Lewin), and it was good to familiarise myself again, being back out there, and getting used to the system too.
“There are more opportunities [in the coming weeks] to hopefully get some more results and really build some momentum.
“I think we have some great, talented players, and when we’re organised like that, we make it really difficult for teams.”
