Everton goalkeeper Joao Virginia will spend the 2019/20 season on loan with Championship club Reading. Portuguese Virginia joined Everton from Arsenal in summer 2018 shortly after featuring in his country’s triumphant European Under-19 Championship campaign. He recorded nine clean sheets in 12 Premier League 2 appearances and was unbeaten in the Premier League Cup semi-final and final, as Everton Under-23s landed a double trophy success in 2018/19. Under-21 international Virginia, who was in his country’s squad for the 2016 Rio Olympics football tournament, originally moved to England with Arsenal after leaving Benfica in 2015. Reading are managed by Virginia’s compatriot Jose Manuel Gomes and are preparing for a seventh successive campaign in England’s second tier. Everton FC

According to The Athletic, Everton could be set to recall Joao Virginia after an unsuccessful loan spell at Championship club Reading. The goalkeeper has appeared just three times for the Royals since his move from Merseyside, and has made a couple of vital mistakes that have suggested he’s not ready for this level of football. His last appearance in a Reading shirt came back in late September when the Royals went out on penalties to Premier League side Wolves.
In that game, Virginia let a relatively comfortable effort drop out of his hands and into the net.
The shot-stopper was a key player for Everton under-23s last campaign, and many thought that he was deserving of an opportunity to showcase his talent out on loan. Unfortunately, it really hasn’t happened for the 20-year-old and the Toffees look set to bring him back to the club in the January transfer window.

If you mess up it's not the same as if you mess up in midfield.
