Forest Green Rovers, the world’s greenest football club, have continued their drive to make the game more eco-friendly by releasing a new kit made from bamboo. The new strip also takes inspiration from nature and adopts a zebra pattern described as an ‘evolution’ of the club’s green and black hoops. “We’ve taken inspiration from nature with our new kit – from the zebra stripes to the sustainable materials,” said chairman Dale Vince. “I was pretty shocked when I found out that modern sportswear is actually made from plastic – that feels wrong to me.” Home shirts will feature the green and black zebra pattern, while the the away kit incorporates a black-on-black zebra look. Significantly reducing the use of plastic, the kit uses 50% bamboo mix, described on the club website as a fast growing, super sustainable material. The League Two side’s support of marine charity Sea Shepherd also makes it into the design, with the Conservation Society’s skull and crossbones logo featuring on the back of all shirts. The club’s plant-based milk partner, Oatly, sponsor the shorts. Gloucestershire-based Forest Green have long been committed to environmentalism, serving vegan food at their New Lawn stadium, which also features the world’s first organic pitch

When I saw it I was expecting to see something from a zulu tribe outfit, but it shows what can be done with natural materials.
