Scientists in Switzerland have discovered that playing hip-hop to cheese helps improve its taste.
The daring study was undertaken by a team at the Bern University of Arts, working ceaselessly alongside Swiss cheesemaker Beat Wampfler.
Playing a different types of music to cheese while they matured, the team found that hard rock such as Led Zeppelin or even classical greats such as Mozart delivered milder flavours.
For something with a bit more strength, it seems, you need to reach for hip-hop, providing a staunch, flavoursome cheese.
The experiment involved nine 22-pound wheels of Emmental cheese placed in individual wooden crates alongside Wampfler’s cheese cellar.
One 'control cheese' was exposed to silence, with the rest being exposed to different songs, each on a 24-hour loop. The winner? A Tribe Called Quest‘s ‘Jazz (We’ve Got)’ for the so-called ‘hip-hop cheese’...
A rep from Beat Wampfler said the cheese was “remarkably fruity, both in smell and taste, and significantly different from the other samples.
