Sambou: Under-23s 'Buzzing' Ahead Of Derby ClashBassala Sambou declared Everton Under-23s’ resolve to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League 2 table with a Merseyside derby victory at Goodison Park on Sunday – stressing “every player is up for this game”. The striker admits there has been an extra edge to training in the build up to the clash with Liverpool, which will be streamed LIVE for members on evertonfc.com. The young Blues’ ambitious, high-octane football has consistently impressed this season, with Sambou an integral figure for David Unsworth’s gifted side. The skilful 21-year-old, who signed from Coventry City in 2016, has hit seven goals while his tireless work-rate and intelligent link-up play has also caught the eye. Sambou expressed his eagerness to continue his fine form when Liverpool visit Goodison on Sunday, and insists the young Blues’ squad boasts the mentality to thrive in the heat of a derby battle. “I honestly cannot wait for the game,” he said. “I’m so excited and everyone is up for this match – we’re all buzzing. “It’s a derby and it’s a big one. “I know my personality will definitely come out for this game. I’m going to be giving it a lot. And I know we will all be giving 100%, everyone is up for this one. “We’re all together and we’ve been fantastic so far this season. We’ve got to know each other better and I feel we’re getting better as a team.” Everton head into the game with the eighth-placed Reds in a rich vein of form, having won four of their past five Premier League 2 matches. The young Blues hold a one-point lead over second-placed Derby County at the summit of the table, and Sambou is convinced the Toffees' possess the quality to go all the way this season. “We want to finish off as the best team in the league,” he said. “We’re not going to get complacent, we need to respect every team out there. “We have to be focused and determined. But we know what we need to do to win the league.”

Liverpool scored the only goal of the game when Adam Lewis' shot from outside the box took a wicked deflection off Wadi Camacho in the 11th minute and wrong-footed Joao Virginia in the Blues goal. Everton had been hoping to increase their advantage at the summit to four points but know Derby can leapfrog them with a win against Arsenal tomorrow night. David Unsworth's side were poor in the first-half with Liverpool seeing two headers in the space of a few seconds, from Nat Phillips and Ben Woodburn, both hit the bar before Camacho's fortunate opener. Everton were better after the break as Unsworth introduced three forwards in pursuit of an equaliser. The lively Shayne Lavery, the Blues' best player, came closest but his shot, after a mazy run into the box, deflected into the arms of Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. Everton otherwise struggled to create any other chances of note despite dominating possession and so slumped to their second league defeat of the campaign in front of the watching Marcel Brands.
