Gabby George and Angharad James will go head-to-head in a crunch World Cup qualifier later this month after their respective call-ups for England and Wales. Defender George has been selected in former Everton skipper Phil Neville’s 23-player strong group, with James joined by young Toffees teammate Elise Hughes in Jayne Ludlow’s squad. Wales sit top of group A having taken 17 points from their seven games so far, with the Lionesses just a point behind but with a game in hand. It means a victory for the hosts on Friday, August 31 at Newport’s Rodney Parade over England would send them to World Cup in France for the first time. However, England could overtake Wales with a positive result and could seal their own spot at the tournament when they travel to Kazakhstan on September 4. Wales recorded a hugely-creditable 0-0 draw against the Lionesses back in April, in which James featured in midfield, and come into the game off the back of eye-catching wins over Bosnia and Russia. They have also yet to concede in qualifying. England, meanwhile, have adapted quickly to life under Neville, with George earning call-ups since he took charge in January. They too have picked up away wins against Bosnia and Russia and have conceded just once in their own qualifying campaign. Everton FC
