According to Daily Mail, Everton are considering a contract extension for Lucas Digne despite being at Goodison Park for only one season.
The Frenchman signed a contract that would keep him at the club until 2023. In his first season at England’s top-flight, he made 35 appearances out of a possible 38 games and in the process, scored 4 times and assisted 4.
Despite the fact that he joined only last season for £18m, Digne has established himself as Everton’s first-choice left-back. He was Marco Silva’s second major signing in the summer of 2018 after Richarlison, who arrived a week before him.
In the ongoing season, Digne has featured in all of Everton’s league games and has provided 4 assists so far. The Toffees are far away from their best and after their 5-2 loss to Liverpool in the recent Merseyside derby, they bounced back from that loss with a brilliant 3-1 win vs Chelsea.
In spite of the team’s bad performance, Digne has been outstanding for them since his arrival from Barcelona. Though he did not get a chance to display his talent in Spain, he won one La Liga title and has a Ligue 1 title too to his name.
Digne has justified himself at the left-back after filling in the big boots of Leighton Baines, who was Everton’s first choice for many years. His performances have been highly rated in the footballing circuit and it looks like Everton would be rewarding him with a new deal.
