Tyias Browning played the full 90 minutes as Sunderland came from three goals down to earn a point at play-off contenders Bristol City on Saturday. The 23rd-placed Black Cats looked down and out with 20 minutes remaining as they trailed to Aden Flint’s opener and a Famara Diedhiou brace. However, a Josh Brownhill own goal and effort from former Toffees winger Aiden McGeady gave Chris Coleman’s side a late lifeline before another own goal, this time from Marlon Pack, levelled a thrilling contest in the dying seconds of injury time. Brendan Galloway did not feature in Sunderland’s matchday squad. Elsewhere in the Championship, Matthew Pennington started Paul Heckingbottom’s first game in charge of Leeds but couldn’t help get his new manager off to a winning start as United suffered a 2-1 derby defeat at Sheffield United. Across the county, Joe Williams was another involved as two Yorkshire outfits went head-to-head, the midfielder playing the entire match as Barnsley carved out a 1-1 draw at home against Sheffield Wednesday. It was an afternoon to forget for Kieran Dowell (90) and Nottingham Forest though as they went down 2-0 at home against Hull City - their fourth defeat on the spin. Staying in the second tier, Callum Connolly played the opening hour of Ipswich Town’s goalless home draw with Burton Albion and Antonee Robinson 90 minutes as Bolton - missing Harry Charsley - were held 1-1 at the Macron by Fulham. Muhamed Besic was an unused substitute as Middlesbrough triumphed 2-1 at home against Reading to stay within four points of the play-off positions. In League Two, Louis Gray was an unused substitute as Carlisle United drew 1-1 at home against fellow mid-table side Colchester United. Finally, away from these shores, Ademola Lookman came on for the final 11 minutes of Red Bull Leipzig’s 2-0 victory over Augsburg in the Bundesliga, Kevin Mirallas had to be replaced six minutes before half-time of Olympiakos’ 2-2 draw away at Atromitos in the Superleague, and Sandro Ramirez remained on the substitutes’ bench as Sevilla edged Girona 1-0 in La Liga.
