There was no question in Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s mind when it came to his favourite contribution to Saturday’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town. The 20-year-old forward retained his place in the starting line-up for Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge of Everton and repaid the manager’s faith by playing his part in both goals. Calvert-Lewin’s intelligent back-heel allowed Gylfi Sigurdsson to open the scoring in front of the Howard Kendall Gwladys Street End with the second half less than two minutes old. The youngster then sealed a second consecutive victory with his sixth goal of the campaign, latching on to Wayne Rooney’s slide-rule pass before seeing his left-footed strike deflect off Terriers defender Mathias Jorgensen and into the net with 17 minutes remaining. Speaking in mid-October, Calvert-Lewin spoke to evertontv about his hunger to score more goals in order to take his game to the next level and with that in mind, the answer to whether he enjoyed his assist or goal more on Saturday was emphatic. “Scoring the goal - there’s no better feeling,” Calvert-Lewin told evertontv. “I’m over the moon to score. I knew with the new manager coming in it’s a clean slate for everyone so I was perhaps auditioning myself and thankfully I’ve got the assist and scored the goal. “I’ve got a [goals] target in my head that I’d like to keep to myself but I’m just happy to keep scoring the goals. I’m getting the chances and perhaps I could have had another one but I’m glad to get on the scoresheet and it’s one more towards my target.” The win over the Terriers saw the Toffees climb into the top half of the Premier League table in Sam Allardyce’s first game as manager. And Calvert-Lewin believes that has provided everyone with a timely boost ahead of another big week of fixtures, culminating with the Merseyside derby against Liverpool on Sunday. “A week is a long time in football. We wanted to build on our win on Wednesday and, thankfully, we’ve done that,” added Calvert-Lewin. “It’s only been a couple of days [since Allardyce arrived] but the first impressions have been good. All the lads were looking forward to the game and it’s a good time for him to come in off the back of the 4-0 win over West Ham. I think it showed that we were all looking forward to it. “We were slightly frustrated at times in the first half but we knew we were very much in the game, especially being at home. Thankfully we got the early goal in the second half and we saw out the result. “We’re very much looking forward to [the Merseyside derby] now. It’s a big game and we knew that the Huddersfield game was important for us to get the result to give us the best kind of momentum going into next week. We’re all ready for it.” Everton FC
