Gana, Pickford And Yakubu In Matchday ProgrammeIdrissa Gana Gueye explains why he has the belief Everton’s squad has the talent and spirit required to turn their form around in Wednesday’s official matchday programme for the visit of West Ham United. The Senegalese midfielder, who is also the cover star of the edition, says: “I don’t want to talk or think about other teams. I’m concentrating on us, and how I and we as a team can improve. “Of course, this season has not gone the way we wanted it to. We were happy in the summer and felt like we could fight for the top six. Now we are fighting around the bottom positions of the Premier League. “The way to get out of our position is by working hard on the training ground and talking to each other. Tell some truths, maybe. But above everything else, you have to work hard every day in training and then go out and do your best on the pitch. “You have difficult times in football and in those moments it’s important to work hard for each other to get out of it.” Joining Gana in the issue is goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who reflects on how quickly he has settled on Merseyside, being reunited with goalkeeper coach Alan Kelly and how he craves more clean sheets in an Everton shirt. As normal, captain Phil Jagielka gives his thoughts from the dressing room. Jagielka is also the subject of our ‘If I…’ feature, with the skipper revealing what other sportsman he’d like to be for a day, what one superpower he’d like, what one day he’d live again and his one biggest regret. Elsewhere, we sit down with former striker Yakubu, who discusses his ongoing relationship with Evertonians around the world and fond memories from his time with the Toffees after announcing his retirement from playing on his 35th birthday last week. Elsewhere, former West Ham defender Tony Gale provides the lowdown on David Moyes’ men, while there is reaction from the latest Under-23s, Under-18s and Ladies fixtures, and much more! Eveton FC

Preview: Everton v West HamTeam news, form guide, referee information and more ahead of Wednesday's match. Everton v West Ham United Premier League Goodison Park 8pm kick-offTEAM NEWSOumar Niasse will serve the second of his two-match ban, while Leighton Baines and Michael Keane are doubts after both defenders came off injured at Southampton on Sunday. Long-term absentees Seamus Coleman, Ross Barkley, Yannick Bolasie and Ramiro Funes Mori are still on the sidelines. Tom Davies is available again after serving a one-match suspension at the weekend. FORMEverton host West Ham following a disappointing 4-1 defeat at St Mary’s. Prior to that match, the Blues had picked up four points from a possible six in the Premier League thanks to the 3-2 comeback win at home to Watford, and a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace. West Ham visit Goodison off the back of a 1-1 home draw with Leicester City last Friday night at the London Stadium. Marc Albrighton opened the scoring for Leicester and looked to have condemned the Hammers to another defeat, but on the stroke of half-time, Cheikhou Kouyate rose highest to nod home a Manuel Lanzini corner to give manager David Moyes his first point in charge of the Londoners. Before that, the Hammers had lost their previous two matches – 2-0 at Watford and 4-1 at home to Liverpool. ONE TO WATCH: MARKO ARNAUTOVIC Having joined West Ham in the summer for a fee in the region of £25million, Arnautovic has had a mixed start to his career at the London Stadium. In just his second appearance for the club, the Austrian was sent off against Southampton for an elbow on Jack Stephens. However, since then, the winger has put in some excellent performances, most notably last time out against Leicester. Arnautovic joined the Hammers from Stoke City where he had spent four seasons, playing 125 times and scoring 22 times for the Potters, including once against Everton in 2015. The forward has also played for his nation more than 60 times since 2008, scoring 16 goals. LAST TIME: EVERTON 2-0 WEST HAM Everton put an end to a five-match winless streak following a 2-0 win over West Ham thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley. The result meant the Blues stayed in sixth place, while West Ham remained 16th in the table. MAN IN THE MIDDLE: MICHAEL OLIVER Michael Oliver became the youngest referee in Premier League history when, at 25, he took charge of the clash between Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers in 2010. This will be Oliver’s 12th Premier League match this season, having also officiated two Champions League games. The Northumberland-based referee was in the middle for Everton’s 1-1 draw with Brighton in October in which he gave a 90th minute penalty to the Blues following a push on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Everton has come a long way.
From ambitions to win the league and the treble to surviving the relegation battle... It's a delight to be a Liverpool fan to see Everton appoint Big Sam.
Jokes apart... I for one am unable to understand how Everton are appointing Big Sam. You lot have one of the best squads in the league after the spending spree in summer. How will talented players like Rooney and Sigurdsson take it? I feel sorry for you guys.

Wayne Rooney starts for Everton against West Ham tonight as the Blues make five changes from the team which lost at Southampton on Sunday. Mason Holgate has been passed fit and lines up alongside Ashley Williams in central defence, while Cuco Martina is named at left-back, with injured duo Michael Keane and Leighton Baines – along with Phil Jagielka – not in the squad. Tom Davies returns after serving a one-match suspension and starts in midfield ahead of Morgan Schneiderlin. And Rooney joins Gylfi Sigurdsson in an attack led by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
