The Cherries had netted just four times in eight league fixtures prior to this game but scored from their first two attacks to seize control after only 18 minutes. Andrew Surman got the first, stroking a 20-yard shot into the bottom corner after being set up by Junior Stanislas, who then turned scorer, tucking away from the penalty spot after Benik Afobe had been fouled by Ryan Shawcross. Stoke dominated the second half and got a goal back when Mame Biram Diouf found the net from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's knock-down, but they were unable to break the away side down again. The win is Bournemouth's first on the road in five attempts in the league and while it does not lift them out of the top flight's bottom three, it does close the gap with those directly above them, including Stoke. The Potters, who were hit for seven at Manchester City last week, have won only once in eight matches in all competitions and find themselves 18th with eight points from their nine games. BBC
