Everton preparing £31m offer for William Carvalho despite Sporting Lisbon deeming him 'untransferable'Portuguese newspaper Record claim Everton want to sign William Carvalho Toffees chiefs are said to have watched the Sporting Lisbon star in action Ronald Koeman thinks Carvalho is 'ideal' for his project at Goodison Park Everton are not giving up despite Sporting considering him 'untransferable' Everton are readying a £31million bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho despite the club considering him 'untransferable'. Portuguese newspaper Record claim the Toffees are refusing to give up on the 25-year-old despite Sporting's not-for-sale stance. Club directors are said to have watched Carvalho in action this season, with boss Ronald Koeman deeming him an 'ideal' addition to his squad. West Ham were keen on signing the defensively-minded midfielder last summer but could not agree a deal with Sporting. Record claim that Everton are now the front-runners for Carvalho's signature despite the Portuguese club's reluctance to cash-in. Koeman has prioritised signing a new striker in the January transfer window with his side struggling for goals after the departure of Romelu Lukaku. But after a disappointing start to the season, the Merseyside club could look to strengthen in other areas in order to get their campaign back on track. Blues boss Koeman already has Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye and James McCarthy as defensive midfield options, although the Republic of Ireland international has struggled for form and fitness. McCarthy has attracted interest from a number of clubs including Newcastle, West Brom and Crystal Palace, with a move away during the winter window a possibility. Daily Mail

Everton’s links with William Carvalho go back two years. The Mirror stated in the summer of 2016, that Ronald Koeman was keen to bring a classy midfielder to Goodison Park and wanted Portugal’s European champion in a £30 million deal. The Toffees have continued to be linked ever since and the appointment of Marco Silva as the new man in the dugout only added to the speculation. The 41-year-old managed Carvalho during his time in charge of Sporting Lisbon after all. But it seems that Everton’s long-running hopes of bringing Carvalho to Merseyside are now over. Record stated that Everton were keen to hijack Carvalho’s move to La Liga outfit Real Betis just three days ago. But the report added that they were under pressure to get rid of a few midfielders first, which did not leave them much room to manoeuvre. And, as it transpires, a last-gasp, eleventh hour swoop proved beyond Everton www.hitc.com
