Courtney Sweetman-Kirk insists there will be no room for sentiment as she bids to help Everton pick up their first win of the campaign against former club Doncaster Rovers Belles on Thursday. The Blue Girls kick off their Continental Cup group campaign when they head to the Keepmoat Stadium to face the WSL 2 high-fliers, kick-off 7.30pm. Sweetman-Kirk beat the transfer deadline to make the switch from the Belles to Everton last month, and while she will enjoy returning to her former club, the forward intends to leave with all three points. “It will be great to see my friends there but at the end of the day, I am an Everton player now,” she said. “Once I step onto the pitch, that comes first. There are no friends for 90 minutes. I left Doncaster on good terms and they wished me well, which was nice. After the game, I will certainly have a catch up with everyone but I am there to win. “We have got to build now and move forward. We can’t look at Doncaster as a WSL 2 team – they are going to give us a really tough test. I obviously know the girls there and I know they will be up for it playing against a bigger club. It won’t be easy. “It is always nice when there is a quick turnaround to the next game and especially when you lose, like we did on Saturday. We will go into the Doncaster game trying to take the performance we have put in against Manchester City and look to get that first win of the season under our belts.” Three straight defeats to Liverpool, Birmingham and the Citizens have left the Toffees without a point in WSL 1 so far but performances suggest that will not remain the case for long. Everton went toe-to-toe with WSL 1 favourites City on Saturday, where they were eventually edged out 3-2 in an absorbing contest at the Select Security Stadium. Sweetman-Kirk has called on the Blue Girls to build on the upturn in displays in order to start picking up the wins that their performances have deserved. “You look at the run we have had – it has been tough,” she added. “But going forward there is a lot to build on. There is a lot of belief in the side among the girls and from the manager. We are in a good place – we’re disappointed to not have points on the board but we are still happy going forward. “We have increased our performance from the Birmingham game and not many sides will give City such a good game. We scored twice against them and they aren’t a team that concede many. “So there are positives to take but we are team of winners. We are disappointed we didn’t come away with something because we could have nicked a draw after that display. But we have to build on that and take it into our next game.” Everton FC

Boss Looks For Ladies To Get Off The MarkHead coach Spence switching attention to Continental Cup.Everton Ladies kick off their Continental Cup campaign against Doncaster Rovers Belles on Thursday night looking for their first win of the season. A tough start to their WSL 1 campaign has seen the Blue Girls narrowly defeated by Liverpool, Birmingham City and Manchester City so far, but Andy Spence’s side now switch their attentions to the season’s cup competition. And while facing the WSL 2 Belles presents an opportunity to freshen up his squad, Spence is looking for the win that recent performances have deserved. “We are looking at this competition like any other – a chance to go and win games of football,” the Ladies head coach told evertonfc.com. “We start at Doncaster, who we know from last season and who will give us a tough game. Every competition is important because we don’t play that many games. “It will be a chance, too, to give players who perhaps haven’t played as much as others some minutes under their belt. But we still have every intention to be as competitive as we can and win the game. “There will be some rotation because you don’t want to leave too big a gap between games and we have near enough two weeks until we play Arsenal in the WSL. For those who haven’t had much football so far, that is a long time to go without. Thankfully, most players have played a good amount so far but certainly the likes of Kirstie Levell will start the game in goal. She has been great in training and deserves to play.” The Toffees have been drawn in a group alongside Doncaster, Birmingham, Manchester City and Oxford United in this season’s Continental Cup. With two other WSL 1 sides to play, Spence recognises that a strong start will set up his side for the fixtures still to come. “It’s massively important to kick off the group in a positive manner,” he added. “After Arsenal, we play Birmingham and Manchester City in the competition so we have to pick up points early on. “But we know we face a good side. I have a lot of time for Doncaster. They are a club who do things the right way, bringing through young players alongside some good senior players like Leandra Little to help them. They have shown with the start they have made to the season that they have quality. “It is important we start with a win, and the girls deserve one. In our three league games we have steadily got better and certainly in the Birmingham and Man City games, we felt like we should have come away with points. “We want to get that first win, it will give us a little boost but I have not seen heads drop. The girls have seen the progress that we have made, but at the end of the day a win is a win and hopefully we can go and get one in Doncaster.”

Everton Ladies kicked off their Continental Cup campaign in style with a 3-0 win over Doncaster Rovers Belles at the Keepmoat Stadium. The Blue Girls started in the best possible fashion. A well-worked move in the sixth minute ended with Chloe Kelly sliding a neat finish under Jules Draycott. The visitors doubled their lead when Dan Turner’s corner picked out Simone Magill, who completely missed her attempted shot but the ball went in off Rovers’ Leandra Little. The Belles had their moments - Christie Murray blasted narrowly over the bar in their best chance of the half. Meg Finnigan almost grabbed a third with a thunderous 35-yard effort that Draycott did well to tip over the bar, as the first half drew to a close. Kirstie Levell, making her first start of the season in place of Lizzie Durack, produced an excellent save to keep out a Jess Sigsworth shot that was destined for the top corner, as Rovers continued to find a way back into the contest. But Everton too were looking to kill the game off - Magill saw a deflected effort clip the foot of the post, then saw a second shot cleared off the line following Kelly’s pull-back from the right. But a third did arrive and it was a first goal in English football for Marthe Munsterman. Rovers half cleared an Everton attack and when the ball fell for the Dutch international just inside the box, she lashed it low and hard into the bottom corner. Three goals and three welcome points for the Blue Girls, who take on Arsenal next.

Marthe 'Proud' Of Maiden Blues StrikeBy her own admission, Marthe Munsterman doesn’t score often. In 84 league appearances for former club FC Twente, she netted just three goals. However she is already off the mark for Everton having helped the Blue Girls secure their first win of the season recently. A tough start to the campaign has seen the Toffees narrowly beaten by Liverpool, Birmingham City and Manchester City but they were rewarded for their positive play in last week's Continental Cup victory at Doncaster Rovers Belles. An early Chloe Kelly strike plus home skipper Leandra Little’s own goal had given Andy Spence’s side the advantage but there was still time in the final minutes for Munsterman to lash home from 16 yards and net her first goal in English football. “I’m delighted and very proud with the goal because I’ve not scored many in my career so far!” she smiled after the game. “It didn’t happen too often at FC Twente. I didn’t even know how to celebrate! But I’m very pleased to get off the mark. “Coming on in the second half, Andy just told me to help us keep the ball and do my own thing. That’s what I tried to do but I was coming into a really hard game. I’m happy with the minutes I played and that I could help us get our first win. “The girls played really well and we were all happy to get the three points. We really deserved them because we have got better every week. Of course it is nice to win games, so to do so is really pleasing.” The Blue Girls have enjoyed a short rest period between the Doncaster game and their next WSL 1 fixture against Arsenal on Sunday. Munsterman admitted it was good to go into that break off the back of a victory and added that the squad intend to keep the feel-good factor going for as long as they can. “We have had a little break and it was nice to go into that off the back of a good win,” she said. “When we got back into training, everyone was happy and now it is about keeping that good feeling going for as long as possible. “The girls deserve credit because even when we have not got the result we wanted, we have never lost our confidence. The players deserve a big compliment for the way they have played so far. Now we just want to continue getting better every week.” Everton FC
