Henry Onyekuru’s Anderlecht came from behind to win 2-1 at Waasland-Beveren in the Belgian Pro League on Saturday.
Anderlecht fell behind in the seventh minute to an Isaac Thelin volley, however the introduction of Onyekuru at half-time turned the visitors’ fortunes around.
A Nicolae Stanciu effort brought Anderlecht level on 75 minutes, before Uroš Spajić struck to secure all three points with nine minutes remaining.
The win, only Anderlecht’s second in the league this season, saw them leapfrog their opponents to go seventh in the table, nine points behind early pace-setters Club Brugge.
It was another disappointing weekend for Brendan Galloway and Tyias Browning as Sunderland’s run without a league win stretched to seven games courtesy of defeat against high-flying Cardiff City.
Browning played the full 90 minutes at the Stadium of Light, with Galloway an unused substitute, as the Black Cats went down 2-1 thanks to a Craig Bryson effort and Joe Ralls penalty.
Joe Williams was on the losing side as Barnsley lost 2-1 to Wolves in what was a thrilling encounter at Molineux.
Williams, who again completed 90 minutes, thought he had seen his side snatch a late draw after a 91st-minute equaliser from Adam Jackson.
However, the joy was short-lived as Alfred N’Diaye netted two minutes later to earn the hosts a dramatic victory. Barnsley remain 21st, one point above the drop zone.
Another loanee to play 90 minutes was Kieran Dowell but he saw his Nottingham Forest side slip to a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa.
Goals from Albert Adomah and Conor Hourihane either side of Daryl Murphy’s strike ultimately won it for the Villans but Dowell was unfortunate to see his 85th-minute free-kick expertly saved by keeper Sam Johnstone as Mark Warburton’s side chased a leveller.
Matthew Pennington’s Leeds United ran out 3-2 winners over Callum Connolly’s Ipswich Town at Elland Road, however neither were in action.
Elsewhere in the Championship, Antonee Robinson completed 75 minutes for Bolton as they lost at home to Brentford courtesy of three unanswered wonderstrikes and Liam Walsh did not feature as Birmingham recorded a 1-1 draw away at Derby County in their first game since the sacking of manager Harry Redknapp.
Finally, in League Two, Conor Grant still hasn’t recovered from a head injury and sat out Crewe’s 5-0 home defeat to Carlisle United.
