 Ex-wife of George Best warns Wayne Rooney to stop drinking NOW - or risk wrecking his life Rooney lost his driving licence for two years and was ordered to perform community service after pleading guilty to drink driving Wayne Rooney has been warned that he has to quit boozing before he wrecks his life - by the ex-wife of George Best. Rooney's latest drinking misdemeanour has seen him lose his driving licence for two years after he pleaded guilty to drink driving following a night out earlier this month. The Everton striker has also been ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid community service. Manchester United legend Best was eventually killed by his alcoholism in 2005 - a battle which ex-wife Angie saw first hand.  Angie, 65, was married for Best for eight years between 1978 and 1986 and saw him turn to drink during the back end of his iconic career at United. And she has warned Rooney that he needs to stop drinking now before he suffers further. Angie told the Daily Star: “He has three children and a fourth on the way. He has got to rein it in a bit. He should give up alcohol. “It is always the alcohol that gets them in trouble. “It is sad when alcohol becomes a vehicle that ruins your life.” As well as his his court punishment, Rooney has been fined two weeks' wages by his club, Everton, who will put the cash towards their Everton in the Community scheme. Rooney was believed to be on around £300,000 per week at Manchester United but accepted a 50 per cent pay cut to join Everton. He is believed to have been humble, apologetic and completely accepting of the club's decision to fine him. Daily Mirror |
