Dominic Calvert-Lewin revelled in being a European matchwinner as Everton secured their place in the Europa League play-off round with a 1-0 win over MFK Ruzomberok. The young forward was introduced on 69 minutes for Sandro Ramirez, and 11 minutes later he fired home to give the Blues a 2-0 aggregate triumph in Slovakia. Calvert-Lewin was overjoyed to make an impact from the bench and help Everton secure passage through to the next stage. “It’s been a tough two games but I’m obviously delighted to come on and score the winner,” he told evertontv. “It’s what I came on to do and I’ve done my job for the boys. “It’s nice to come on and affect the game because you can’t always do that. I’m pleased because it was the winning goal and it’s carried us through to the next round of the Europa League. “We knew that it was going to be tough over the two games. We’ve had to work and we’ve grounded them down. “Europe was what we were working for all last season so to have thrown it away at this stage would have been tough to take. Now we can look forward to the next round.” The Toffees are in the middle of their pre-season preparations, having played Gor Mahia, FC Twente and Genk in friendlies earlier this summer. But Calvert-Lewin believes enjoying competitive run-outs before the Premier League season starts at home to Stoke City on 12 August can give Everton an extra edge. “You would like to think we have got a little bit of a head start with the competitive games we have played,” he added. “I know we’ve got a friendly in a couple of days against Sevilla and we can get more minutes, but we will be looking to hit the ground running [against Stoke].” Everton FC
