"Perfect Way To Mark Anniversary"
Ladies defender Finnigan delighted to sign full-time contract in 10th year at Everton.
Megan Finnigan says signing a full-time professional contract is the perfect way to mark 10 years at Everton.
The Blue Girls defender joined the Club as a nine-year-old and has progressed through the ranks to become a regular in Andy Spence’s senior squad.
Finnigan admits she didn’t have to think twice when fresh terms were put to her and she is looking forward to playing her part in an exciting time for the Club.
“This is now my 10th year at Everton and I can’t think of a better way to mark that anniversary than by signing my first full-time contract,” she told evertontv. “Everton are a club that mean a lot to me so it’s very special.
“There is a really positive atmosphere around the Club at the moment and a belief that we are going in the right direction. It’s an exciting time for us, going up into WSL 1, and I am delighted to be a part of it.
“I played a lot during the Spring Series, which was great for me, but I do believe making the step up to WSL 1 will boost my performances. It will help make me the player I want to be.
“It is going to be a challenge but that’s what we need and what we always wanted. Individually, it is only going to push my game on and help me get to where I want to go.”
Finnigan is preparing to represent England at the Under-19s European Championships, which start on 8 August.
In the meantime, the Toffees have added four new faces to the squad, including Dutch internationals Siri Worm and Marthe Munstermann, Wales midfielder Angharad James and England youth international Lizzie Durack.
Finnigan is relishing to competing at the Euros, then meeting the new signings when she returns to Everton.
“I am really looking forward to playing with all the new faces,” she added. “We needed to recruit and we have done that. The blend of players we have brought in are going to boost the squad and we have added experience as well which is important.
“It is always good to bring in fresh faces and it gives you an opportunity to learn from them and develop your own game as well.
“We have also retained the core of the squad as well and the togetherness of the group is really good. That is central to the team and with the new players, that should help make us a strong squad.”
