Williams Makes Loan Switch To BarnsleyMidfielder moves to Oakwell for the 2017/18 season.Midfielder Joe Williams has joined Barnsley on a season-long loan. The 20-year-old will gain Football League experience by spending the 2017/18 campaign in the Championship with the Tykes. Williams, who has been with the Blues since the age of seven, moves to Oakwell after helping Everton Under-23s win the Premier League 2 title last season. He missed the majority of the 2016/17 campaign with knee and ankle injuries but regained full fitness in February and was named on the bench by Ronald Koeman for a handful of Premier League matches without being called upon. Earlier this year, Williams penned a new long-term contract which extended his stay at Goodison Park until June 2020. Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom is pleased his club have continued their relationship with Everton after Blues youngsters Gethin Jones and Callum Connolly also had loan spells with the Yorkshire side in recent seasons. He said: “We have been looking at Joe for a while and have been to see him play a few times. We have had success in player recruitment from Everton in recent times so I have to thank them for continuing to trust us with that.” Everton FC

Joe Williams joins Wigan Athletic from Everton in permanent transfer
Midfielder Joe Williams has completed a permanent move to Championship club Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.
Williams, 22, joined Everton at the age of seven and rose through the ranks before playing a leading role as the Club's Under-23s secured the inaugural Premier League 2 title in 2016/17.
The youngster then spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Barnsley, before another Championship loan stint with Bolton Wanderers last term.
Williams was named on the first-team bench for a Europa League encounter with FK Krasnodar in 2014 and again for a handful of fixtures towards the end of the 2017/18 season but never made a senior Blues appearance.
He did, however, feature and score a second-half free-kick in Everton’s historic pre-season friendly against Kariobangi Sharks in Kenya in early July, before starting against FC Sion in Switzerland the following weekend.
Williams becomes the second Everton Academy product to join Wigan this summer, following left-back Antonee Robinson in heading to the DW Stadium.
