Rooney Unveils 2017/18 Away KitEverton and Umbro have revealed the Club’s new away kit for the 2017/18 season.
Boyhood Evertonian Wayne Rooney, who signed a two-year contract with the Blues yesterday, was the first to be pictured in the new away shirt following his official unveiling at Goodison Park.
The kit has been revealed as part of a campaign entitled #TogetherInspired – recognising and celebrating the impact travelling Evertonians have at away games.
Everton’s fans were invited to take part in a launch video and photoshoot at Goodison Park, which captures their support in the new ‘Micro Chip’ grey strip. The video also includes Everton players Idrissa Gueye, Phil Jagielka, Ashley Williams, Kevin Mirallas, Mo Besic and Mason Holgate.
The new design takes inspiration from the iconic tower which features on the Club crest and the memorial gates at Goodison Park, using a subtle geometric pattern to bring tradition into a modern kit design.
Complementing the new 2017/18 home kit, the strip includes a slimline version of Umbro’s classic diamond graphic running down the sleeves and a Dixie Dean motif on the back of the neck, as chosen by Evertonians through a fan vote.
The Club has worn grey in other seasons, including 1988/90, 1994/96, 2001/02, 2005/06 and also during the 1984/85 title-winning campaign.
Anthony Little, Umbro General Manager, said: “The design of this new strip is all about the well-loved traditional features at Goodison Park, but #TogetherInspired celebrates how the fans’ support carries the Club when they’re away from home.
“Thousands of Blues make trips far and wide each year to support the team and, with the new season taking Everton into Europe, the Club wanted to thank some of their most loyal fans by placing them at the heart of the launch campaign.”
Everton captain Phil Jagielka said: “There’s always excitement among the fans to see the new kit and, with the squad continuing to be strengthened this summer ahead of a big season in front of us, I’m sure the away kit will go down really well with our supporters.
“Everton’s away fans are the best in the Premier League, the commitment and support is incredible and, as players, we’ll look forward to wearing the away shirt with pride in the coming season. It’s shaping up already to be really exciting, with us being back in Europe as well.”
To help improve performance on the pitch, Umbro has used a jacquard fabric with ergonomic placed panels. The knitted graphic pattern and contrast heat applied tape provide heritage, with a professional design. The accompanying shorts in a darker block grey have a tailored silhouette and a combination of stretch woven and mesh fabrics for easier movement, while the socks feature separate leg and technical ankle sections.
Everton’s new away strip is available to purchase on pre-order from evertondirect.com, Everton One and Everton Two today (Monday 10 July), before going on sale on Thursday 20 July both in store and online.
