Ossie Rewards Loyal Blues With Tanzania Trip Courtesy Of SportPesaEverton Football Club and Main Club Partner SportPesa sent former Blues midfielder Leon Osman to reward two lucky Evertonians with the prize of a lifetime! Fan favourite Ossie turned up on the doorstep of long-time Season Ticket holder Linda Hayward and her son Philip to proclaim them both as ‘SportPesa Fan Ambassadors’ for the upcoming pre-season friendly in Tanzania on 13 July. After overcoming her initial shock at opening her door to the Blues Academy graduate, a visibly emotional Linda invited Ossie inside for a cup of tea and found out more about her prize. As Everton’s SportPesa Fan Ambassadors Linda and Philip will fly to East Africa with the first-team squad and backroom staff, stay in the team hotel and have the opportunity to watch Ronald Koeman’s men train ahead of the game against SportPesa Super Cup champions Gor Mahia at the Tanzania National Main Stadium. The mother and son duo will also be among the first to wear the soon-to-be released 2017/18 away kit. Speaking after surprising the Haywards, Ossie said: “I was out in Dar es Salaam last month so I know how amazing a prize this is for SportPesa to offer. It’s becoming the norm for a Club like Everton to do something like this and it’s great that SportPesa have got involved and put together such a fantastic prize with some amazing behind-the-scenes access. “Having spent time with Linda and her son this afternoon, I can honestly say I couldn’t have met two nicer Evertonians to be going on the trip.” Once she had taken it all in, newly appointed SportPesa Fan Ambassador Linda said: “I really wasn’t expecting Ossie to turn up on my doorstep, it was just amazing. I felt really choked up – it was a big surprise! My son and I both love Everton so this is just incredible.” Philip added: “We’ve been home and away every season since I was eight. Everton means everything to us a family; something like this doesn’t happen to people like us! I’m so excited.” The Haywards were selected at random to be the SportPesa Fan Ambassadors after registering their interest to attend a special Everton event this summer being held to thank loyal “Travelling Toffees” from the 2016/17 season. Fifteen-time Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia leave the country on Tuesday morning for Dar es Salaam ahead of their friendly against English Premier League side Everton.
Gor Mahia, who won SportPesa Super Cup last month to earn an opportunity to play the Premiership side, will play Everton on Thursday at Tanzania National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Gor Mahia's new coach Dylan coach is in the country, and was in the stands as the team took on Bandari in their GOtv Shield fixture on Sunday in Thika.
The Englishman, who worked as manager of Under-18 side of English fourth-tier team Chesterfield until his appointment last week, arrived in Kenya Sunday morning.
Gor's Chief Executive Officer Lordvick Aduda confirmed that all 30 registered players will travel, except young winger Amos Nondi who is set to travel to Georgia to join club Georgian National League side FC Kolkheti Poti.
"The team will leave at 6.40am on Tuesday, and we have made arrangements for each member of the squad to ravel. It will be a good experience for the team, and Kerr will travel with us," he said on Sunday.
Kerr's first assignment in the SportPesa Premier League comes this Saturday when Gor play Muhoroni Youth in Kisumu.
"I have always been interested in the top team from East Africa but as you know, there's always others that are in the position. I know Gor Mahia, I love their fans. They are the soul of the club. It will be an amazing job for me," Kerr, former coach of Simba SC tactician told Nation Sport immediately upon his appointment last week.

Ronald Koeman is looking forward to taking his Everton squad over to Tanzania this week to kick off the Blues’ pre-season fixture schedule. The Toffees face Kenya's most successful side, Gor Mahia, in the 60,000-capacity National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, their first friendly within their preparations ahead of the 2017/18 campaign. Koeman revealed each of the travelling party – which includes a whole host of new faces including latest signing Wayne Rooney – will play 45 minutes against Gor Mahia as they look to build their fitness levels. The Toffees are in Tanzania as part of their new partnership with sponsors SportPesa, and the players will also be out within the local community getting to know the culture of the East African country. It makes the trip an exciting one and Koeman is looking forward to the experience. “I’ve been several times to Africa but never to Tanzania,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it. “It’s always difficult in pre-season to go a long way abroad because it will be hot over there and we need to play the friendly. But with the way we have organised it, we leave on Tuesday evening and are back on Friday. That’s good because it’s not too long and it won’t have a negative effect on our pre-season. “It’s a trip that is not all about football. There is the commercial side as well, which is good for Everton. We will support the Club in what we need to do over there. “The most important thing is how we start our pre-season. It is about what we need to do to get to our best at our football and physical levels. This is our first friendly and everybody will be involved for 45 minutes in the game. You play football to win and we will do that in Tanzania.” Everton FC
