Nathan Broadhead says Everton is “the perfect place to be” after signing a new contract with the Club until the end of June 2020. The Wales youth international, who can play as a striker or winger, has broken through into David Unsworth’s title-winning Under-23s side this season. Bangor-born Broadhead, 19, joined the Blues’ Academy nine years ago and has progressed through the ranks, enjoying an outstanding campaign for the Under-18s in 2015/16 by being named Player of the Season, finishing top goalscorer, and helping fire the young Blues to the Dallas Cup. After penning his new deal, he told evertonfc.com: “I’m very pleased. I’ve been an Evertonian all of my life and it feels like the perfect place to be for me. I’m just glad it’s all done and I’m looking forward to next season now. “At the beginning of this season, I wasn’t really getting into to the [Under-23s] team but I worked hard in the gym to build myself up and tried to impress the staff on the training pitch. “I managed to get into the team more towards the end of the season and to help the team win the Premier League 2 title was something I will never forget. To lift the trophy at Goodison in front of so many fans was an unbelievable feeling. “Playing with the Under-23s has been brilliant. It’s a great group of lads and [coach] David Unsworth and [assistant] John Ebbrell have helped me a lot. They’ve worked with me on my defensive responsibilities and work off the ball - I feel like I’ve gained a lot from working with them. “Next season I want to cement my place in that team, hopefully get more game time and more goals and assists.” Speaking in a recent edition of the Everton magazine, coach Unsworth hailed the work-rate of Broadhead after a testing start to the 2016/17 campaign. “Nathan has been one of the best Under-18s players in the last two years but it’s a massive jump up to the Under-23s,” he said. “You’re giving away four or five years in terms of the players you’re up against and Nathan has had to be patient when he might have felt that he should have been playing. “But what he has done is work his socks off every day. He’s lived in the gym and physically he’s grown so he can really compete. Fitness-wise he’s so much better, but also from a tactical point of view, he understands the game a lot more in terms of the demands of senior football.” What The Papers Say 22 MayQuintet Eye World Cup Progress Share Everton FC
