Tony Cottee says Ross Barkley could boost his career by LEAVING Goodison ParkTony Cottee believes a move away from Everton could be the best thing for Ross Barkley’s career. The homegrown Toffees star is approaching the final 12 months of his contract and has been warned he will be sold this summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal. Barkley is a huge talent but has struggled for consistency since bursting on to the scene as a teenager and Cottee agrees with another former Everton man – Richard Dunne – that it may be time for the 23-year-old to seek a fresh challenge. Speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Cottee said: "I'm a huge fan of Ross Barkley. I think he is a fabulous player. “He has had a strange season - good and bad - and he is at that stage where he has got to kick on with his career and maybe he needs to leave Everton. “He is under a lot of pressure there, he is a local boy, and if anything ever goes wrong in a game the fans seem to blame Ross. “I think he is at the stage where he is thinking, 'do I need to move?' "I have had a similar situation. I am a West Ham boy and played for West Ham and you get frustrated, look at your career and you don't want to leave because it is your club but you know you have to leave from a professional point of view." Talksport Leaving West Ham definitely furthered his career but Barkley leaving Everton now would be a disaster for him. If he's feeling the pressure here then he's going to really know what pressure is like at Spurs or one of the other top 4 teams. They will demand so much more because expectations will be through the roof. If he doesn't perform on a consistant basis (and there's no proof that he can) he will be dropped without a blink of the eye and perhaps even sold (probably back to us).

I don't think Cottee quite remembers what he writes in previous articles.
That's human nature though.
Wouldn't mind having him back as a striker at his best though.

I'm getting bored with the will he or won't he with Barkley. Sign or go.
