Phil Jagielka is one of the Premier League’s most in-form goalscorers at the moment, and the Everton defender has put his new prowess in-front of goal all down to his new Nike boots. The veteran centre-back found the net in the weekend’s 3-1 victory over Burnley, meaning he’s now scored in his last three consecutive Premier League matches – and becomes the first-ever Everton defender to do so in top-flight English football. Moreover, Jagielka’s strike in the 1-1 draw with Manchester United earlier this month – the first of his historic treble – was his first goal in open play since scoring a consolation against Aston Villa back in May 2015. What has prompted this slightly bizarre run? Well, according to the man himself, it’s all down to a slight tweak in his footwear. Speaking via the Everton website, he explained: “The lads have been been laughing away at my goals! “It’s been a case of change of boots, change of luck for me. “Some new boots came out and I’ve managed an assist and a few of goals in them, so hopefully that continues. “The main thing is that they’ve been important goals, scored at important times and they’ve meant something at the end of the game. We’ve still got a few games left this season and, hopefully, I’ve not used all my goals up just yet. “It’s always nice to score goals. It’s something I’ve taken a bit of stick for – not scoring many, especially recently. So it has been nice to get a couple.” The boots in question? It appears Phil has been playing in Nike’s Hypervemon Phantom 3 DF FG, if his picture is anything to go by. If you’re a struggling centre-half looking to transform your Sunday league team’s fortunes, it might be time to rush out and purchase some new footwear.

Sounds like a bit of blatant advertising if you ask me.

Had Jags mistakes been punished he'd not be getting so much positive attention. He still needs to work on his defending.
