228th Merseyside derby
Premier League
Anfield
12.30pm kick-off
TEAM NEWSRonald Koeman has confirmed Morgan Schneiderlin will miss the Merseyside derby with the calf injury he sustained against Hull City.
The Blues boss reported the France midfielder is progressing well from the problem, but will miss Saturday’s trip to Anfield and is also likely to be absent for the game against Manchester United three days later.
“Morgan is getting better now,” Koeman told evertontv. “He is still not available for the weekend and I don’t think he will be available for the game against Manchester United on Tuesday, but we have good hope that he will be available for the Leicester game.”
The Dutchman also confirmed Ramiro Funes Mori’s season could be over, with the defender set to get a second opinion on knee damage suffered on international duty with Argentina.
“Funes is not good,” he said. “They checked him on Wednesday and we will have a second opinion on Monday - but we expect him to have surgery on the meniscus in his knee. That means that it would be the end of the season for him.”
James McCarthy has been ruled out of Saturday’s trip to Anfield with a hamstring injury, while Koeman reiterated everyone at the Club will give Seamus Coleman the “maximum support” he needs to overcome a double leg break.
Meanwhile, Yannick Bolasie and Muhamed Besic will not be available for the clash with Liverpool as they continue their rehabilitation from respective knee injuries.
FORMEverton head to Anfield in fine form following convincing back-to-back victories and having lost just one Premier League game since the turn of the year.
The 4-0 win over Hull City last time out was also a seventh clean sheet in the past 10 league matches, dating back to the start of January.
The Reds, meanwhile, enjoyed an unbeaten March, including a 1-1 away draw with Manchester City and home wins over Burnley and Arsenal.
CLASSIC MEETING: Liverpool 1-2 Everton, Saturday 18 November 1995
Andrei Kanchelskis secured his place in Everton folklore with a glorious double in his first Merseyside derby as Joe Royle's impressive record against Roy Evans was extended at Anfield.
The Russian international created and netted the opener, breaking from deep before spreading wide to Paul Rideout on the right flank. Phil Babb stood off as Rideout shaped to cross, and that allowed time for Kanchelskis to march into the box and thunder a 12-yard header in off David James' left-hand post.
Royle had started his spell as Everton boss with a derby win the previous season and Kanchelskis made certain that he would mark the beginning of his second year in charge at Goodison with a similar triumph 21 minutes from time.
Anders Limpar found Kanchelskis on the right and when the winger struck low and true, James could only help the ball on its way into the net.
The hosts pulled one back through Robbie Fowler in the 89th-minute, but the Blues held on to consign the Reds to a first home defeat in nearly seven months.
ONE TO WATCH: PHILIPPE COUTINHOSigned from Inter Milan in January 2013, Philippe Coutinho has become one of Liverpool’s most creative forces.
The 24-year-old attacking midfielder is now also an integral part of the Brazil national team.
Coutinho, who signed a new five-year contract with the Reds in January, has scored seven goals and provided five assists for his club so far this season, despite missing six weeks of the campaign with an ankle injury.
MAN IN THE MIDDLE: ANTHONY TAYLOR
The Cheshire-based official will be taking charge of his fourth Everton match of the season on Saturday.
In all competitions, Taylor has officiated 33 games so far in 2016/17, with his most recent Premier League outing being Southampton’s 4-0 away win over Sunderland last month.
He has shown 132 yellow cards and four red cards this campaign, including including seven yellows and a red in his last Premier League outing when Chelsea won at Stoke.
