Everton Ladies Edged In Merseyside DerbyBlue Girls exit FA Women's Cup after 2-1 loss in Widnes.Everton Ladies suffered FA Women’s Cup heartbreak after Shanice van de Sanden struck in extra time to knock them out of the FA Cup. The Blue Girls had more than held their own against their WSL 1 opponents and Simone Magill deservedly hauled them level in the second half after Tash Harding’s early opener. That goal forced extra time in the tie, but despite enjoying the better of the extra 30 minutes, Everton were undone by Holland international van de Sanden’s strike. The Toffees had the game’s first opportunity but when Michelle Hinnigan swung over a free-kick, Claudia Walker could only guide her header over the bar. Liverpool then promptly went in front. Scotland international Caroline Weir sent a low cross over from the right and Harding slotted the ball past Kirstie Levell at the near post. In a half of few clear cut chances, Simone Magill dragged a shot from range off target and Gemma Bonner needed to be alert to stop an Amber Stobbs cross from reaching the Northern Ireland striker in the final attack of the first half. The second half opened much the same as the first – with both sides threatening in the early exchanges. First Dan Turner was well-placed to hack away a Kate Longhurst header off the line. Then Walker was played in down the left hand side of the box but, after trying to flick the ball at goal, she was denied an equaliser by an excellent save from Siobhan Chamberlain. Walker couldn’t guide a looping volley on goal, but on 69 minutes the equaliser arrived, Magill in the right place at the right time to steer the ball home from close range. It was no less than the Toffees deserved but Liverpool immediately looked to re-establish the lead, only for Ali Johnson to shoot straight at Levell. The hosts came even closer on 80 minutes – midfielder Katie Zelem took aim from 25 yards and whistled a drive that smacked against the post. But it stayed 1-1, meaning the tie went to extra time, but it would be Liverpool who would steal the victory. Walker and Magill had both gone close before van de Sanden nodded past Levell from Amy Rogers’ cross. Heartbreak but the Toffees, but they can hold their heads high after more than matching their top flight neighbours. Everton FC
