Everton Under-23s take on Manchester City on Friday evening in a crunch clash at the top of Premier League 2. David Unsworth’s table-topping Toffees travel to City’s Academy Stadium to take on second-placed City, a 7pm kick-off, knowing a win would extend their lead to nine points with four games to play. The Blues head down the East Lancs in fine form, with six wins from their past six league outings. “Everyone is looking forward to the game,” Under-23s assistant John Ebbrell told evertonfc.com. “Obviously, they are second and we are top so we want to put on a positive performance, win the game and that will put Monday’s result behind us then. “Our last performance in the league was excellent. It was a very good team performance - good passing, good movement and we worked for each other. It was a joy to watch.
“We want to go to Manchester City now and do something similar, make that statement that we can play well against the best teams in the league and, ultimately, win the game.
“It’s another test for us. Regardless of what situation or scenario you are in, the key thing is to maximise what you have and perform at your best. Friday will be no different, apart from there being a bit more of an edge to the game because of the importance of it.”

They got beat good style. They're still top so it's in their hands not City's.

Everton Under-23s had their lead at the top of the Premier League 2 table cut to just three points after a 3-0 defeat at second-placed Manchester City. Neither side could carve out any clear cut openings in a first half played at considerable pace, with Blues defenders Matthew Pennington and Morgan Feeney enjoying fine games. But City stepped up the pace after the break and went in front through substitute Thierry Ambrose, who found enough space in the box to fire low past Mateusz Hewelt. Everton barely had to time to compose themselves following the goal before City grabbed a second – Brahim Diaz squeezing a shot beyond Hewelt. A buoyant City put the game to bed with third as Jadon Sancho converted from close range. The Blues did continue to push forward but Angus Gunn somehow managed to turn Feeney’s close range drive over the bar and Courtney Duffus nodded a Kieran Dowell cross wide. Liam Walsh also had a long range effort comfortably saved by Gunn, and Dowell was close from a similar distance. Disappointment for the Toffees then, but a chance to things right straight away – they play Derby County on Monday. Everton FC
