Having been a part of the famous 2010 FA Cup success for the Blue Girls, Everton captain Michelle Hinnigan is keen for her team to push on in this year’s competition. The competition holds a special place in the heart of the midfielder, earning her only club trophy to date in the 3-2 win against Arsenal, in which Natasha Dowie struck a dramatic 119th minute winner. Everton travel to New Ferens Park in the Fourth Round to face a Durham team who finished a point and a place below them in the WSL 2 last season. “We’re all really excited and looking forward to the game,” Hinnigan said. “The girls all want to go on a good FA Cup run this season and go further than we did last year. It’s a massive competition and it was a great feeling to win to it in 2010.” The Vixens are familiar foes but Hinnigan is confident about her side’s chances, having recorded a 3-1 victory when they last met. “We’ve played them in the last couple of seasons now and we know that they’re a very strong team with some really good technical players,” the 26-year-old said. “We know it’s going to hard to break them down but it’s about us taking our game to them and playing the football that we want.” In the previous round of the competition, the Blue Girls won 8-1 against Brighouse Town with Hinnigan netting the third goal in the rout. “It was good to start the season with a win with so many different goalscorers because it wasn’t the easiest of pitches to play on,” she said. “It’s a nice feeling (to score) as always but it’s far better that the team plays well with all the hard work behind the goal.” Everton are yet to play at home this season, with the opening two games being away from the Select Security Stadium. “I love playing at home in front of our fans but away games are just something you have to get on with no matter where you’re at,” Hinnigan said. “We do get some fans coming to away games and we get a chance to bond on the coach journey and have a pre-match meal together the night before.”
