Players better for knowing where they stand - By Barry HorneRonald Koeman may have raised some eyebrows by declaring there are those who know they have no future at Everton. As a player, it depends on the individual. Some would sulk and be upset, but most simply appreciate knowing where they stand. Any good manager doesn't say one thing and then do another. There's no point stringing somebody along and saying they'll be part of future plans when that isn't true. Schneiderlin: I didn't just come to Everton for Koeman That just gives the manager a problem, and sends out the message to everyone that an opinion can quickly change. Koeman's day has been made easier by telling players of his intentions, because it means he doesn't have to overly worry about those who have no future. It's a case of telling the player 'get yourself a club if you want to play football, and we'll do our best to make it happen'. Take Oumar Niasse. It was very good business to move him on this month as he was never going to play for Everton again. Even in these days of vast wealth for clubs, his salary would still have been a lot of money going down the drain. He was also blocking up a place in the under-23s for one youngster, despite being praised for his contribution and attitude. Tom Cleverley was in a similar situation. To me, he always seemed a transitional signing, somebody on a free transfer who filled a hole in the squad at that time. In any walk of life, it's not nice to be told you're not wanted. But it's better than not knowing whether you are coming or going. Liv Echo
