Bradford-born Delph began his senior career at Leeds United and impressed in what was a difficult time for the Elland Road club.

He made 50 appearances in three years and enjoyed a fantastic final season in which he was named 2009 Football League Player of the Year, whilst also winning the club’s Young Player and Players’ Player awards.

Still only 19, he moved to Villa Park before the start of the 2009/10 season but suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in April 2010 which ruled him out for 10 months.

He briefly returned to Leeds on loan in early 2012 but frustratingly saw the spell end early due to an ankle injury.

The following season he established himself at Villa and won the club’s Player of the Season award.

His fine form continued into the next campaign, which saw him win his first England cap in September 2014, whilst he was also made club captain.

City added him to the ranks in time for 2015-16, but a hamstring injury suffered in the opening seconds of an England appearance in September side-lined Delph for two months.

He bounced back to contend for a place in Manuel Pellegrini’s line-up, and bagged his first goal for the Blues in a 3-1 win over Southampton in September 2015.

Injuries took their toll on the midfielder's 2016/17 campaign, but Delph was excellent in 2017/18 as he reinvented himself as a left-back to cover for the injured Benjamin Mendy.

It was enough to win him a place in England’s 2018 World Cup squad, where he featured in four games as the Three Lions reached the semi-finals.

In 2018-19, he suffered number of injuries but made 20 appearances at both left-back and in midfield to win his second Premier League title.

He joined Everton on 15th July 2019 signing a 3 year contract.
