At Everton between 2013 - 2015

A Paraguay international defender, Alcaraz arrived at Goodison Park in June 2013, becoming Roberto Martinez's second signing as Everton manager.

The centre-half followed Martinez from Wigan Athletic on a free transfer and penned a two-year deal.

Born in San Roque González de Santa Cruz, 100km from the Paraguayan capital of Asunción, Alcaraz began his career with Argentine outfit Racing Club de Avellaneda in 2001.

The following year he was headed for Europe, though he failed to make an appearance during a loan spell with Fiorentina, a side mired in financial turmoil and facing demotion to the Italian fourth division.

In January 2003, the 6ft 2in enforcer signed on with Portugal's Beira-Mar and it was there where he kickstarted his career and began a rise to international recognition.

In total, Alcaraz spent four years with the Iberian outfit, racking up 112 first-team appearances and five goals as he helped the side earn promotion to the Portuguese top-flight.

His form prompted interested from FC Bruges and a switch to Belgium was completed in July 2007.

Alcaraz was a key player as his new side landed three consecutive top-three finishes in the Belgian Pro League and he gained his first call-up by Paraguay in November 2008.

Continued good form for Bruges caught the eye of Martinez and a deal to take the South American to Wigan was thrashed out in May 2010.

He quickly established himself as a regular at the DW Stadium and in May 2012 scored the only goal of a crunch game against Blackburn, salvaging the Latics' top-flight status and relegating their opponents in the process.

A serious groin injury saw him sit out five months of Wigan's 2012/13 campaign, though he returned in time to feature heavily in the FA Cup, playing the full 90-minutes at Wembley as Martinez's men shocked Manchester City in the final.

He departed Wigan having made 77 appearances in a three-season spell.

Internationally, Alcaraz starred at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, playing every minute of his country's run to the quarter-finals while also netting in a 1-1 draw against Italy in the group phase.

He was also a first-choice for the Copa America the following year as Paraguay reached the final. Again, he was on the scoresheet in the competition, his goal coming in a thrilling 3-3 group phase draw with Venezuela.

A series of injuries hindered Antolin's first season in Royal Blue which featured six starts and one substitute appearance.
